The sustainable energy authority Ireland (SEAI) formely the irish energy center was setup by the Government in 2002 as Ireland material energy authority.
At present there are Grants available for existing homes build prior to 2006. The “BETTER ENERGY HOMES” scheme administrated by SEAI looks after the grant process for existing houses.

A building energy rating “BER” is now an integral part of all grant applications where by the homeowner must undertake a BER on their home after grant aided works have been completed. The homeowner is now intilited to grant aid of €80 towards this. Only when the BER is completed can the homeowner claim any grant aid from the “BETTER ENERGY HOMES” scheme
